Here are some pictures of last year’s fun!
Last year was the inaugural year for SHEEP THRILLS Fiber Retreat There was a great turnout for the beginning of this new addition to fiber fun activities calendar. In fact, it was so much fun — we’re doing it again!!! This is your opportunity to join us in the cooler climate of Prescott, AZ. for the weekend of August 8th – 10th, 2014.
Mary will be teaching Weaving on the Triangle loom. They’ll be small looms to experiment on and talk about how to put the triangles together. For those who have the triangle basics, Mary will demonstrate and teach diagonal weaving on the triangle loom.
Barbara will be teaching one class on Determining Your Own Personal size and planning a pattern that will fit you! We’ll make muslin patterns. The second class will focus on using that pattern or another one as a base for laying out a free form garment. If you don’t do the first class you can bring another garment to use as a base pattern. Let creativity reign along with some fun and experimentation.
There are lots of other classes being offered. Check out the link above to Grandma’s Spinning Wheel and Sheep Thrills for more information on other classes.
Accommodations are in a summer camp environment, but each room for 2 has its own bathroom. If you’re looking for mints on your pillow and a nice turndown — this isn’t it! The accommodations are on the “rustic” side, and we had to bring our own linens. We brought our sleeping bags which worked great.
The food was wonderful and served buffet style. This is not a place to get thin. All the meals were filling and tasty. Breakfasts were had anything you could think about wanting. Lunches and dinners were equally good with a vast array of desserts well.
The walk to the dinning hall is a down hill (getting back is UP hill was the not so fun part. This year there will be the camp mini bus available to transport us to and from the dining hall.
Goody Bags and T-shirts were also part of the event. We got to know each other the first night by pairing up with someone we didn’t know and then interviewing each other and then introducing that person to the rest of the group. Classes were held in a large assembly hall, (this year we will be in a different space with more light). All the equipment/materials for the classes were provided, so we did not have to bring any special fiber related stuff. Snacks were provided by Grandma; One of the Crones became addicted to “TrueBliss” dark chocolate covered coconuts chunks.
Prescott AZ is a “4 hour drive” from Tucson, if you don’t stop along the way. One of our stops up last year was at IKEA, which is a fast off and on location on I-10. We even had a good lunch at their cafeteria.
There are a host of fun places to stop along the way. Had we not had lunch at IKEA we would have had lunch at the Rock Springs Cafe. When traveling north to Flagstaff this is one of the Crones favorite place to dine. Warning: if you do plan on indulging on a slice of pie, make your main course on the light side since the portions are large. Or just stop for a great slice of pie and don’t have anything else except the ice cream on the pie!!!!
We’re looking forward to teaching again. We hope you’ll join us!
